October 7, 2011, Worcester MA - Three of the large sculptures in this summer’s Art in the Park exhibit in Elm Park are being installed in three locations in the city.

“We were thrilled when Visual Arts Liaison Kathy Ivanowskim contacted us, after a parent approached the Worcester Arts Magnet School principal Susan O’Neil about the possibility of temporarily installing one of the sculptures in the school,” says Gloria Hall, Chair of Art in the Park. Students and others will be able to view these large-scale works of art throughout the school year—and maybe beyond.  "Our hope is that someone might want to purchase one or more of these works," Hall added, "so they will stay in the Worcester area permanently, possibly at their current location. A sale will add beauty and definition to public spaces and its proceeds will help to continue Art in the Park."

"Big Pencils," two giant pencils, one red, the other yellow with "Worcester 1" painted on it, have been installed in the auditorium of the Worcester Arts Magnet School on St. Nicholas Street. Both impressive and whimsical, they're made out of two huge logs.

Three Sculptures from Art in the Park Exhibit Installed in Public Schools & Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Worcester

"It's great for the children to have an original art work to see and to interact with," says Principal O'Neil, "and to have the artist come visit us." The sculptor, Paul Angiolillo, who lives in Watertown MA, will be giving a talk and demonstration at the school on Friday, October 14.

John Weidman's "First Friendship" was installed on the lawn at the Burncoat Middle School. Principal Lisa Houlihan anticipates that the excitement the sculpture will create among parents and students will add positive energy and foster a sense of pride about the school. Sculptor John Weidman will speak to the students on Monday, October 24.

Carol Lewenburg's "Portals" will be installed in the Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary next week.
